My name is Kristine Maloney, and I oversee national media relations and communication efforts for the College. I'll be traveling to Chicago in March for the CASE Media Relations Conference, and am hoping to meet with higher education reporters and op-ed page editors at the Chicago Tribune and Chicago Sun-Times while I'm out there. If any of you have suggestions of other journalists/PR professionals/etc. in the Chicago area who would be good for me to reach out, I'd love to hear them. Feel free to post your suggestions to this blog or email me directly at kmmalone@holycross.edu.

Socially Responsible Companies Listingtag:typepad.com,2003:post-427022222007-12-11T14:28:43-05:002007-12-11T14:28:43-05:00One of the marketing ideas from the meeting was to associate HC with a list of top companies that are being "socially responsible."

One of the marketing ideas from the meeting was to associate HC with a list of top companies that are being "socially responsible." Apparently there are a lot of media pubs writing about the topic because I have seen a few since our meeting a week ago. This is an article from Smart Money Mag http://finance.yahoo.com/focus-retirement/article/104001/The-New-Do-Gooders?mod=retirement-IRA

To stand out from all the noise, HC could tap into an alumni at one of the large banks like Goldman which has a fund of socially responsible companies. It might help them market the fund to say that an outside party like HC sets the criteria and evaluation for what makes a socially responsible company. It would help HC to have someone like Goldman's marketing muscle behind the story.

blog will be one way for all of us to communicate as we finalize the
College’s Marketing Blueprint and move forward with implementing the plan. As we discussed at our meeting last week,
we’d like you to give some thought to the positioning statement (see below). How can we make this statement –
which is for internal use only (i.e., it will not be printed in Viewbooks, on
the Web site, etc.) – more concise? What 2-3 key points truly resonate with you? What sentence would you highlight – or craft
differently? Other thoughts?

Thank you for taking time
to think about this. In the coming
weeks, Elizabeth Scarborough and I will be posting other questions for your
consideration and feedback.

Fr.
McFarland and I were extremely pleased with the discussion we had with you last
week. Your ideas and critiques have
already proved invaluable. Thank you again for your time, enthusiasm, and
commitment to Holy Cross.

So, here’s
the positioning statement for your review and comment:
